TOP 10 Halloween reads

Okay guys, so it’s finally October (my favorite month by the way) which means Halloween is just around the corner. Since I was a little kid Halloween has been one of my favorite holidays ever. As a kid my parents hosted a Halloween party in our garage every year. Our whole neighborhood dressed up in spooky costumes and it was just the coolest thing ever. Sadly they stopped doing it a couple of years ago. I used to dress up as Buffy The Vampire Slayer all the time haha

To celebrate the most awesome time of the year I especially love to read scary and spooky books. That’s what made me think of some nice Halloween reads. Maybe you can spot a book you’ve also read and loved already? If yes, let me know in the comments. And maybe you know of any other spooky books which you could recommend? If so, please also comment below because I’m always looking for spooky books I haven’t heard of yet.

Here are my TOP 10 Halloween reads (no particular order)

I read Nightmares by Jason Segel last years Christmas and I totally loved it. This one right here is definitely one of my favorite childrens books ever. The book is about a young boy named Charlie who gets caught up in his own Nightmares. So if you want to read a book that doesn’t scare the hell out of you but is still kind of creepy, filled with some scary creatures and monster – this one definitely is the right book for you. I absolutely loved it and I can’t wait to read the second book of the series.

I think I’ve read this one like two years ago around Halloween and it was absolutely worth it. Saw this book on someone elses instagram feed back then and thought this would be the perfect October read and it absolutely was. The book is about a family which moves into a new house. Everything is perfect except for that odd smell that is coming from the basement and the weird behavior of the neighbors. So actually this book is about ghosts and all that scary stuff and I do remember that I read it when I was home alone and it totally freaked me out. So if you want to get scared by a haunted house, you should definitely give this book a chance.

Derek Landy is one of my favorite authors. He is such a great writer, of course I had to pick up his new book Demon Road. I was absolutely thrilled. It might not have been very scary but it was so good anyway. The book is about a 16 year old girl who always thought that she was nothing but normal but then one day she is dragged into the demon world. Great characters, thrilling plot, perfect atmosphere: this book is a perfect October read and I would recommend it to anyone because it’s just awesome!

Buffy The Vampire Slayer has been my favorite TV show since I was seven years old. I started watching it when the first episode aired on TV and I still watch it regulary because it’s just awesome. So of course Buffy is one of my all time favorite Halloween reads ever. There are demons in there, vampire, witches – what else could you ask for? Besides, aren’t these bookcovers not just so gorgeous? I could just sit there and stare at them all day long.

I think I read Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children like two or three years ago. Might have been three already tho and I absolutely loved it. I might reread it this Halloween because I really want to read the second book but I’m not sure if I do remember everything that’s happened in the first book. If you haven’t read this one yet, you should. It’s perfect and all the photos that were featured in this book totally freaked me out.

And again another Derek Landy book on this list. Skulduggery Pleasent, the friendly skeleton who tries to combat evil with his young companion named Stephanie. These books are awesome. I have to admit I’ve only read the first two books so far but I can’t wait to continue with this series this Halloween (hopefully) might wait until Christmas to read it tho.

Only recently I read Asylum bei Madeleine Roux and even tho the end was a bit disappointing for me I loved the beginning of the book so much. Even though it wasn’t as scary as I hoped for it was really good. I absolutely loved the atmosphere of the book. So if you don’t like scary books that much but still want to read something nice for Halloween you should definitely pick this one up. But watch out for the photos which are featured in this book. They might freak you out just a little.

As soon as the month October starts, a month full of mysterious injuries and tragedies begins for 17-year-old Cara.  I didn’t quite like this one as much as I thought I would but I did like the atmosphere of the book and it just felt so much like Halloween I had to put it up on this list.

A Curious Tale of the In-Between is also a book I recently read and for a childrens book I thought it was really cute. I love ghosts so I just had to pick this one up and besides some things I didn’t like that much I really enjoyed reading it. So if you like ghosts too and also like to read young childrens books you should definitely check this one out.

The Coldest Girl in Coldtown is actually the only book on this list that I haven’t read myself yet. But I’ve been dying to read it since I saw this wonderful cover. I haven’t read a book by Holly Black yet except for the Iran Trial which she wrote together with Cassandra Clare so I am pretty excited to find out what the books are like she writes on her own. I am so excited to read this. This is definitely on my Halloween TBR this year and I hope I will stick to my TBR and read this one soon.
