REZENSION: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J. K. Rowling

title: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
author: J. K. Rowling
publisher: Bloomsbury
publication date: July 1st, 1999

All Harry Potter wants is to get away from the Dursleys and go back to Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. But just as he’s packing his bags, Harry receives a warning from a strange, impish creature named Dobby – who says that if Harry Potter returns to Hogwarts, disaster will strike. And strike it does. For in Harry’s second year at Hogwarts, fresh torments and horrors arise, including an outrageously stuck-up new professor, Gilderoy Lockheart, a spirit named Moaning Myrtle who haunts the girls‘ bathroom, and the unwanted attentions of Ron Weasley’s younger sister, Ginny. But each of these seem minor annoyances when the real trouble begins, and someone–or something–starts turning Hogwarts students to stone. Could it be Draco Malfoy, a more poisonous rival than ever? Could it possibly be Hagrid, whose mysterious past is finally told? Or could it be the one everyone at Hogwarts most suspects… Harry Potter himself.

I know I’m late to the party. I read the first three Harry Potter books I think when I was like 20 years old. Harry Potter just never interested me much when I was a kid and even though my brother read all books when he was little I never got myself to pick the books up myself. When I tried to give the series another shot when I was 20 I gave up again after book three, not because I thought it was bad, only because it did not interest me much. I just couldn’t get myself to continue with the series.

So last year, or maybe two years ago (I can’t really remember) I suddenly felt the urge to give Harry Potter and his friends another chance. I read the first book last year and totally loved it. But you know how it is, every time you want to read a book another one comes up and another one and another one … but I finally managed to read the second book in the series, so it was actually a reread which was pretty much necessary since it’s been like 6 or 7 years since I last read it and I really loved it. I enjoyed the book so much even though I’ve watched the movies like a hundred times already and basically knew everything that was going to happen.

I really don’t know what else to say since everyone knows Harry Potter, everyone knows what the books are about and I’m pretty sure that almost everyone out there has read at least one of the Harry Potter books or has at least seen the movies. Even my dad loves the movies haha I really loved the book. It’s amazing and it’s so impressive what a great world J. K. Rowling has created. She’s such a talented woman and definitely deserves all the love and support people give her. I’m overwhelmed by the magical world she’s created and by all the great characters. Except for maybe Gilderoy Lockhard who’s got to be the most annoying book character ever haha he was even worse in the book than in the movie.

I’m very glad that I finally got myself to reread/continue with the series and I can’t wait to read Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban next. This book totally deserves 5 of 5 stars.
